The World Bra Unclipping Championships at Garimba By Hugh O’Brien Garimba is a small Queensland county town in big economic trouble. It’s cattle and crop growers have been battered for years by one drought after another, so, believing that tourism can be their salvation, the ‘Business Attraction Group’ decides to stage a “grabber” event. In a desperate effort to bring money and recognition to their town, BAGG throw around a few ideas that could reel in the tourists but unfortunately, all the “world” events seem to be happening elsewhere. All except one! A quirky, laconic, so-o Australian comedy, this play was the inaugural winner of the National Dogwood Playwrights Initiative and it is easy to see why it romped in first. The play tackles two key themes – that of country towns taking their economic future into their own hands whilst facing the unique challenges facing regional Australia. Destined To Fail By Catherine McKernan Doris Winner of the 2021 Noosa Arts Theatre Shorts on Stage. Retiree Chris decides to find a male companion by placing an advertisement in the local paper, much to the surprise of long-time friend Jean. Unfortunately, Chris does not fully understand the abbreviations used in modern dating, and the outcome is as shocking as it is hilarious. Chris’s granddaughter, Amy, is called upon to unveil the true, albeit somewhat misleading, interpretation of her advertisement. A Little Of What You Fancy By Catherine McKernan Doris Maisie’s obsession with changing hobbies and hoarding seems a bit much for her ‘long-suffering’ other half, Bill. All becomes clear, though, when we discover that Bill has a little 'hobby' of his own
